“I want Eddie for Christmas!” or “If only I had an Eddie…”
At first, I thought Eddie was some handsome baker everyone had a crush on.
Turns out… Eddie is a certified edible image printer — an automated way to decorate cookies with precision, color, and a touch of magic. And yes, he completely changed my cookie perspective. To be honest, I never thought I would have a chance to get one as it’s not every baker, especially in Montreal has it.
Once I saw what Eddie could do, I finally understood why everyone was obsessed.
Why an edible printer?
As a baker certified by MAPAQ in Montreal, I take food safety as seriously as design.
That’s why I invested in the Eddie Printer by Primera, one of the few certified edible printers designed for direct food printing on royal icing cookies. It was a major investment, but one that made sense — not only for its precision but for its legitimacy.
In the cookie world, it’s not just about making something pretty. It’s about ensuring every bite is safe, consistent, and delicious.
After dreaming about it for years, I finally made it happen in year two of my journey. It truly is every cookier’s dream baking equipment.
Hand-decorated or printed cookies?
Some cookies are made for life’s milestones — weddings, birthdays, baby showers — where every detail is unique.
Those will always be hand-decorated, created one by one like edible pieces of art.
But for corporate events or team celebrations, you often need dozens or even hundreds of cookies that look identical.
That’s where printed shine: consistent, elegant, and still delicious.
Either way, both options are custom-made, designed to match the story, style, or brand behind each order.
With Eddie, I can reproduce any logo or design with exact brand colors on smooth royal icing — because taste and texture matter as much as precision.

3 Sweet branding options
Simple logo cookie – Round or square shape featuring a clean edible print or image. Ideal for events or corporate gifts.
Die-cut cookie – Custom-shaped cookies that match a precise image or product for a creative twist.
Mixed design cookie – Printed elements combined with hand-decorated details for a premium and creative look.
Learning to master printed precision took time — from adjusting icing texture to finding the perfect print alignment. I owe a big thank-you to my mentor Custom cookies by Karen for guiding me through my first Eddie setup, and to Enjoya Cookies for always answering my “what if it jams?” messages. Their advice helped me bring designs to life exactly as intended, crisp, colorful, and ready to impress.
From Dream to Food Tech Reality
Getting an edible image system was a dream I gave myself three years to reach — and I made it happen in two.
And yes, it was so worth it. Eddie didn’t just help me handle larger corporate orders; he changed how I see food technology in artisanal baking. By the way, did you know there’s a Freddie too? Honestly, I don’t know where they get these serial-killer names for food tech — but at least my Eddie is sweet, sassy, and certified.
Because in the end, it’s not about replacing the artist — it’s about giving her new ways to create.
That’s exactly what fascinates me in my master’s thesis in e-commerce:
Should we embrace automation or not?
Well… I think my position is pretty clear. 🙂
